Venetian masks have always been known to be incredibly beautiful, colorful, and even a bit provocative depending on the style. What many may or may not know is that Venetian masks have been around for centuries, dating back to around the 13th century, although the exact origin is unknown. There are several types of unique masks that are worn, primarily during what is called the ‘Venice Carnival’ , one being the Bauta mask, a mask that is heavily gilded and designed to cover the entire face. Although it was originally all white, it is now adorned in various colors.
Another type of mask that is popular during the Venice Carnival is Columbina, which is a type of mask that only covers the eyes, noses, and upper cheeks of the wearer. It is usually adorned with silver, feathers, gold, and various other decorations.
Some tidbits that I found to be interesting about Venetian masks is that those who were them were forbidden to gamble, as well as in the early 1300s, those who were masks could not enter nun’s convents or wear any type of ask that was deemed as vulgar. Over the years, during that time, the wearing of masks became even more restricted, with wearers only being allowed to don masks three months out the year.
I think it is incredibly interesting how something so simple as wearing a mask could have evolved so much over time. Now, venetian masks are worn to masquerade balls, and even Halloween. Such a long way they have come!
A second hand wedding dress is worth investing in. If you have the experience of preparing for a wedding or preparing someone for a wedding, you know that expenses mount. Many young couples are fine upstanding people. They are committed. Both may be working, but their budgets just don’t stretch far enough to cover first class wedding or brand new wedding dress. When it comes to the dress, wedding expenses can zoom up astronomically.
A second hand wedding dress is an excellent way to save money. Most metropolitan areas of the country have second hand stores, such as Value World, Goodwill, St. Vincent De Paul and the Salvation Army. These are actually great establishments to explore to find the exact dress that you are looking for and at unbelievable low prices.
The stores have often had them cleaned and pressed already.
Actually, they won’t accept them if they are not in good condition. However, you can them cleaned yourself with the money you save, and you could also probably find some accessories at a decent price to go along with the dress. At any rate, your budget would be freer to invest in the little wedding accents that are needed to make it complete.
A second hand wedding dress is the way to go for the young urban working couple. Let’s not forget about the men. If they don’t have tuxedos, maybe a tuxedo may not be necessary. I know, or at least I am reasonably sure that you can find a suit that would look appropriate at your special affair. These discount or second hand stores have both men’s and women’s shoes as well. You will have to do some research on your own. But I am sure you can find some items you would be pleased with that would be a great relief to your budget.

There is one thing that I absolutely love as a woman and that is the appeal of an attractive men’s tie on a man. For some reason, I was never into the whole bow-tie thing (although I have seen some very nice combinations of suits and bow-ties); it has just always been something about a nice silk tie paired with a clean-cut suit.
When looking for a men’s tie for my husband, I was absolutely amazed at the number of ties that were out there! From puff ties, to cravats, to silk puff ties- I mean, it was positively overwhelming! Who would have ever thought the world of men’s ties would have evolved the way it has?
I was intent on getting him a new tie because my parents invited us out for their 50th wedding anniversary and I wanted to find the perfect tie for him (if left up to my husband, he’ll wait up until the morning of to go searching for a tie). I was going to purchase one online originally, but there were so many options, I decided to look in-store instead (even though the options were only a little less overwhelming).
In the end I decided to go with a traditional silk tie from tiehq.com.au that incorporated the colors of pale pink and baby blue. I though it would be the perfect fit for the grey suit he was wearing to the get together. When I brought it home he loved it instantly- I felt very proud of myself! Now, we just have to find the perfect cologne!
I just wanted to mention, that I gave him a ring. We had been going together for years and years and years, more than 15 years actually. He is in the military. He re-enrolled just before 9-11. He didn’t know we would be escalating our military efforts as a result of 9-11. He re-enrolled before all that ever happened.
The military has been calling him ever since. Every time there is a flare up in one of the hot spots, he’s contacted and told he has to go overseas to the battlefront. He’s on standby now as a matter of fact. We just don’t know. He may be called. He may not.
As for me, the first few years were difficult. I credit my stability to an eclectic effort on my behalf. I credit the general state of my consanguinity to my spiritual study. I take vitamins and that helps stabilize me along with medication. And then eating properly and getting enough sleep is extremely important. A lot of times I stay up at night.
I just wanted to mention – back to him – that he endures every twist and turn of his fate, every direction with the spirit of a true U.S. Marine. Oh, he complains a little to me, but he is, as they say, “Forever Faithful.” I am very proud of him.
So, it had been so long, and we’ve talked about marriage, and he’s also mentioned getting a house. He even talked to a real estate agent. So I bought a men’s ring and gave it to him. If he goes on duty this time, he may not return.
Claddagh rings are one of my favorite symbolic pieces of jewelry. I have my claddagh ring, and I wear it as one of my signature pieces. Its meaning holds sentimental value. Therefore, it’s one of my every day, never-take-off pieces of jewelry.
The claddagh is an ancient English and Irish symbol where two hands clasp a heart, one hand on either side, with a crown on top of the heart. The symbolism expresses friendship, love, and loyalty where the hands represent friendship, the heart represents love and the crown represents loyalty. It is truly a beautiful symbol with intrinsic meaning for the wearer. I love my claddagh ring so much, because it was given to me by someone special.
I managed a shop called Medieval Gallery for a couple of years in New Hope, Pa. We sold a variety of claddagh rings, and we sold a lot of them! Often, the claddagh rings were purchased as engagement rings or wedding bands. Couples would come in looking for a matching set, or one person would come in looking for the perfect engagement ring. I loved it! It was lovely to witness happy people expressing closeness and sentiment for each other or one for another.
Another reason I love my claddagh ring so is that it is a passed down symbol of antiquity. The idea of hands coming together clasping a heart has its origin in medieval times where the hands and heart stood for loyalty and trust. Over time, the crown symbol was added and the meaning slightly changed to incorporate love and friendship. Claddagh rings genuinely express a truly beautiful notion.
I can only say that a Bridal Fascinator will put the crowning touch on any bride. At a time which is the peak of her life, when she is shining, it adds a touch to accentuate the epitome of the moment. Ordinarily a Bridal Fascinator is special; specially selected for the bride to complement her dress, shoes, and corset, it helps to make her, any bride, almost perfect for an almost perfect moment. And the little imperfections the human beings bring to the ceremony are zoomed to heaven to beg for forgiveness and many times a complete program for overcompensation will be delivered.
So if we ever fear the moment, if we are ever in dismay as the hour grows near, remember that Providence holds a plan for us, for the fearful. Put it all in one big prayer or as many are as necessary to walk boldly forward into the unknown. Will there be joy? Will our hopes be answered?
The Bridal Fascinator says to look perfect. It says to be prepared for an outpouring of gifts, to be prepared to be inundated with the love of family and friends. We want to look the part. We want to be prepared. We’ll have to pin up our fears. We may have to pretend. We may have to act. But if we attend to every little detail of our bridal attire, if we make sure we are prepared to meet the greatest blessing with dignity. The Bridal Fascinator goes on the hair, a woman’s crowning glory. It is the finishing touch in our preparation. The reward can be great if we are prepared to receive it. ‘Be thou therefore perfect’. And so it is.

They will have to have Black Bow Ties. For a wedding, this is necessary. If they are going to be ring bearer, and the best men will have to have Black Bow Ties. Their whole suits will have to be all Black. It’s traditional for a wedding. Particularly this kind of wedding.
Have them talk to the clothier at the store to check on the details of their attire. They want to be near perfect for this occasion.
The Bride and the bridesmaids are lovely. They are out now getting hair done, shoes dyed, nails done and pedicures done. They will have to get make up, arrange for flowers, but as I said. We will have to speak with the coordinator to see exactly what needs to be done. But yes. Yes. They will all need black bow ties.
An allowance must be made for the attrition rate for the guests. Even with R.S.V.P.’s people don’t show. So we’ll have to get an approximate number. Then we will have to speak to the caterers. Make sure the chicken is thoroughly cooked, seasoned properly and tender. Make sure the vegetables are crisp. One butter flake biscuit with each place and we must have pats of real butter. Make sure it is real butter. That’s important.
Now the Bride and the Groom should each be busy taking care of details. Each time they ask, give them a list of about twenty-five or thirty things to do and usher them a way in an executive fashion. Take Charge!
Thanks for the advice bowtiehq.com.au!
I also found the history of birthstones to be extremely interesting, not to mention there are so many good ideas on how to use them for gifts.
I discovered that birthstones are primarily a Western custom, originating from the 1st century when a historian was confident that there was/is some form of connection between the 12 months of the year, the twelve zodiac signs, and the twelve stones that were in Aaron’s breastplate (a breastplate that was worn by the High Priest of the Israelites).
Birthstones now, however, are viewed as more of a ‘thing’ than having anything to do with their supposed historic origins. Curious as to what your birthstone is? Below are the birthstones for the twelve months of the year:
1. January-Garnet
2. February-Amethyst
3. March-Aquamarine (or bloodstone, depending on the society)
4. April-Diamond
5. May-Emerald
6.June-Pearl
7.July-Ruby
8.August-Peridot
9. September-Sapphire
10.October-Opal
11.November-Topaz
12. December-Turquoise/Zircon
Call me superstitious but I do believe there to be some connection between our personal birthstone and our personalities, just as I believe there to be a connection between our personalities and our zodiac sign. Regardless of what you believe, I think birthstone pendants and jewelry will make a good gift for just about anyone (although girls may appreciate it more than boys). There are a ton of ideas out there on how to creatively incorporate birthstones into gifts, jewelry or otherwise. Just simply Google ideas and go from there!
Another fun idea, if you have a little girl, is for you two to do a DIY project and you guys make your own jewelry. My own daughter loves it!
So I was researching some creative ideas for my daughter’s birthday, which is coming up in a few weeks and I was completely unaware that there was a such thing as birth flowers; I heard of birthstones of course but not birth flowers. What are birth flowers, do you ask? Well, they are just they sound: each month of the year has a particular flower that corresponds to it. It is said that the particular characteristics of that flower is ‘inherited’ by whomever, man or woman, is born in that particular month.
What’s so interesting about this is, from a cultural standpoint, characteristics of flowers are known to be ‘gifts’. According to Roman legend, they were the ones who started the tradition of celebrating birthdays and births by using various flowers. After learning about this I decided to honor the same tradition by bringing a beautiful, and large, bouquet to the hospital when my niece was born. She was born in the month of December so here I was walking with this huge arrangement Holly (which is suppose to represent sweetness and vanity).
I think the idea of birth flowers is a wonderful tradition that can be used in a variety of creative ways when it comes to birthday parties and gifts. Traditional gifts and methods of celebrating births and birthdays can be so boring and unoriginal. I certainly plan on taking advantage of my new-found information for my daughter’s upcoming birthday, she is a true ‘girly-girl’ so I am sure she will get a kick out of all the flowers.
